Christopher D. Johnson selected for Hamilton Relay 2022 Deaf Community Leader Award for the District of Columbia

Christopher D. Johnson has been selected as the Hamilton Relay 2022 Deaf Community Leader Award recipient for the District of Columbia. Since moving to the District in 2018, Christopher has continued his previously well-established commitment to volunteerism and advocacy making a tremendous impact in the Deaf community.

Christopher has served as President of the District of Columbia Area Black Deaf Advocates since 2021 and was selected to continue in that role through 2024. Through this organization, he focuses on “addressing and improving areas in building and strengthening wealth, political influence and education opportunities within the Black Deaf community.” Prior to his appointment as President, Christopher served as the Black Deaf Youth Leadership Coordinator for the organization from 2018-2019. 

Since 2020, Christopher has served as an Advisory Board Member for the Center for Black Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University and was recently renewed to serve a second term. 

Christopher also volunteered as a member of the Zachary Parker Ward 5 DC Council Campaign Executive Committee to ensure that committee members were connected to local Deaf leaders and the community and enabling community members to have their concerns known and represented.

In all his activities, Christopher is committed to strengthening the relationships between Black hearing and Black Deaf communities, promoting opportunities for Deaf students of color to excel and advocating for the needs of Black Deaf youth.
